The 2009 California Hot Rod Reunion, presented by Automobile Club of Southern California, was held at Famoso Raceway just north of Bakersfield, Calif., on October 16-18. It used to be the little brother to the popular March Meet held at the same venue, but judging by the early sellout of the car show and the huge field of racers in attendance, that is no longer the case.
The OC Auto Show Comes to the Anaheim Convention Center

When people come to visit the sunny, SoCal city of Anaheim, most stop by for a California adventure into the famed Disneyland theme parks. Others flock farther down the street to see their American League Western Division Champions, The Angels, play at the team’s stadium. But once a year, around the time OC natives are buzzing about the upcoming World Series, another attraction rolls into town at the Anaheim Convention Center. For four days, the OC Auto Show delights fans of a different type, delivering the latest in automotive innovation, with companies such as Toyota, Mazda, Lexus, Infinity, Hyundai and, of course, the Big Three making their presence known on the showroom floors. Once past the entrance, enthusiasts of all types are transformed into the auto show world, greeted by a life-sized replica of the Bumblebee Autobot, towering over 18 feet, standing behind his Camaro counterpart.
At a military installation, one should expect to hear the whine of high-performance engines, especially at a naval air station. What one may not expect to hear is the throbbing beat of an uncorked ISMA muscle car or a late-model NASCAR.
